This session is designed to support international GEs in their teaching at UO by providing an overview of U.S. classroom norms and expectations. The session will help international GEs navigate the emotional labor of teaching while using a different language or teaching with an accent, offering practical strategies for communication. We will also address how to manage microaggressions in the classroom, handle grading challenges, and choose appropriate instructional modes like lecture, small group work, or whole group discussions. Participants are encouraged to share their anticipated challenges in a supportive and welcoming environment. The presenter will also introduce a series of follow-up events and resources for ongoing support throughout the term.
