SPRING WORKSHOP SERIES
UO Online invites you to join us as we explore how we can help our students flourish in online and hybrid classes. Novelty can help students engage in new ways, and regular interactions with students allows you to partner with then in ways that encourage deep thinking and iterative improvement.
Our exploration is motivated by the question: how can we as instructors best engage our students while partnering with them in their learning?
We hope you can join us!

Creative Assignment Design
Friday, April 28th • 1:30-3:00 pm • Tykeson 140
Hit the refresh button on your online course as we explore how to practice creative assignment design. As more students become familiar with the online classroom, maintaining student engagement and curiosity often requires adopting novel approaches to familiar kinds of assignments. Workshop attendees can expect to engage in a collaborative brainstorm that will imagine how routinized assignments and activities can be transformed into unique learning experiences. We will also showcase creative assignment designs developed by UO faculty and even invent a few of our own. We hope to see you there!
Regular & Substantive Interaction
Friday, May 19th • 1:30-3:00 pm • Tykeson 140
Online students flourish when instructors engage with them in regular and meaningful ways. In fact, U.S. Department of Education regulations name “regular and substantive interaction” as a criteria for online courses. It can be challenging to build these learning partnerships in online and hybrid classes, but meaningful interactions can help our students become critical thinkers in our classes and beyond. Join us on May 19th as we explore what it means when regular and substantive interactions guide student learning in your online class.
