Supported Browsers

Please see this Instructure page for a list of browsers supported by Canvas.

Safari on MacOS

While Canvas supports Safari on a Macintosh, there are a few known issues when using Canvas with Safari.

Safari won’t display insecure content, which is content linked via HTTP instead of HTTPS.

Safari doesn’t support recording media.

Due to default privacy and security settings, third-party integrations may not load in Safari, and you might see this error message:

Cookies deactivated. Assignments requires third-party cookies to be turned on. Please double-check your browser settings and reload the page. Third-party cookies may also be blocked by your browser's "cross-site tracking" or "cross-site cookie" settings.

To address this, follow the steps in this Apple help article or use a different browser.

Canvas Mobile App

To use a mobile device to access Canvas, ensure you have the latest versions of both the operating system (OS) and Canvas app. If the OS and/or the app are out of date, you may experience issues accessing Canvas content.

Troubleshooting Browser-Related Issues

If Canvas isn't behaving as expected, you can open Canvas in a private window (or an incognito window in Chrome). This bypasses your browser's cookies and cache and may bypass any plugins and extensions you've installed. If Canvas behaves as expected in a private or incognito window, you can try clearing your browser's cache and cookies or disabling plugins to see if that resolves the issue. If Canvas does not behave as expected after logging in with a private or incognito window and disabling plugins, try using a different browser. If that fails, please submit a help desk ticket.
