Writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement
The Teaching Philosophy Statement (TPS) is a common request as part of faculty job applications – a study in 2022 found that more than 70% of faculty job applications required one. This Zoom workshop will discuss what a TPS is and what goes into one. We will look at research on what hiring committee chairs and others have to say about what makes a good TPS. After completing the workshop participants will be ready to start drafting a TPS, having outlined their beliefs on teaching and learning and highlighted specific teaching practices they use that embody those beliefs.
This workshop may be of particular interest to graduate students and others who may be entering, or re-entering, the academic job market.
