Rethinking Assessment with AI in mind

  • 23 January 2026 1:00pm – 2:00pm
  • Virtual Event
  • Event Host: TEP
  • Event Type: Workshop
  • Teaching Pillar: Professional, Research-Informed

How can we redesign assignments so they still invite learning, support diverse students, and make your expectations around GenAI use clear and workable? Whatever your stance on GenAI in learning, this session offers ideas from Universal Design for Learning, Transparent Assignment Design, and the assessment redesign suggestions to help make assignments more transparent, accessible, and AI-resistant.

We will share research-informed strategies for clarifying purpose, task, and criteria; widening access points for students; and building in “productive friction” so students stay actively engaged with the work. Most of the session will be spent working: you’ll bring one current (or planned) assignment, optionally test it with an AI tool to see what the tools generate, and develop several revision ideas with peer feedback. You’ll leave with at least one redesigned assessment element and concrete next steps you can implement right away.
