Inclusive Teaching: Showcasing Diverse Content in the Classroom
For Lundquist College of Business Faculty only:
The Lundquist College of Business is hosting for its faculty this session in response to findings from a recent project by Oregon Consulting Group (OCG), Lundquist’s student-led consulting organization, that examined why our pre-business cohort is more demographically diverse than our major cohort. A key recommendation of the group is that Lundquist courses would benefit from more speakers, examples, case studies, etc. that showcase the expertise and leadership of BIPOC businesspeople.
The Teaching Engagement Program can help us think through and identify strategies to act on this recommendation, including a range of ideas from small, easy-to-implement steps to more elaborate changes over time. We will devote time in the session to:
- consider key findings from the OCG report,
- examine best practices and authentic ways for diversifying course content,
- hear from colleagues who’ve already taken steps to ensure course content reflects the diversity of the field,
- explore and develop concrete ideas with colleagues, and
- discuss how these efforts fit into Lundquist’s and UO’s focus on inclusive teaching.
Please come to this session with at least one concrete idea in mind for how you might start to act on the OCG project’s recommendation. You will have an opportunity to share and develop this idea with others.
