Beyond the Breakout: Peer Teaching with ‘Jigsaw’ and ‘The Final Word’
Discussion structures increase student equity in our classrooms and (in many instances) facilitate greater student engagement with course content. The “jigsaw” structure is one example of this; studies indicate it correlates to an increased sense of autonomy, motivation, and social connection in the classroom. This micro-workshop with TEP and UO Online will review the components of the jigsaw and other small-group protocols, and the goals they support. Structures can be used in synchronous large and small enrollment courses. There will also be optional time from 10:30-11 a.m. for participants who are interested to practice with Zoom.
