Are you curious about how educational research can enhance your teaching? Educational Research in Action is a supportive community of faculty and graduate instructors who are passionate about improving teaching and learning through evidence-based practices.
OUR PURPOSE
We aim to
- Create spaces for collaborative discussions and knowledge-sharing on effective teaching strategies.
- Support faculty and graduate instructors in conducting educational studies by providing theme-based skill-building workshops.
- Provide access to resources, mentorship, and opportunities for faculty and graduate students interested in educational research.

Qualitative Research 101 -May 9
- Facilitator: Ali Söken
- This session introduced qualitative research methods as tools for exploring teaching and learning. Participants learned about structured interviews and practitioner inquiry, gaining practical strategies to investigate and improve their own teaching practices. The workshop emphasized accessible, actionable approaches for educators new to qualitative research.
Designing Effective Surveys - April 18
- Facilitator: Jenefer Husman
- Description: This workshop focused on designing surveys and collecting meaningful data to explore educational research questions. Participants revisited or generated research questions and learned best practices for crafting effective survey items, selecting response formats, and encouraging participation. The session introduced foundational survey design strategies to support research on student learning and teaching effectiveness.
From Teaching Challenges to Research Questions - March 14

Human Subject Research and IRB Processes - Feb 9
- Facilitator: Kayla Champaigne
- Description: This session introduced the fundamentals of human subject research and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) process. Participants gained practical guidance on getting started with IRB applications, understanding common requirements, and navigating approvals, with time for questions and community-building activities.
