Departmental Teaching Policy Leads

Teaching Policy Leads are stipended ($1,500K+OPE) colleagues identified by unit heads to facilitate teaching and teaching policy conversation with their units. They will attend two meetings hosted by the Provost’s office, first about facilitating a departmental conversation on teaching values, then about applying notes from their departmental conversations to policy update documents.

A Teaching Policy Lead is a faculty colleague who would effectively facilitate departmental conversations on teaching and policy if supported with resources and training. Specific qualities that might be valuable in this position are that this colleague is experienced in faculty review and/or someone who has in the past played a role in departmental- or campus-wide conversations about teaching.

Teaching Policy Leads are meant to help units make the most of the policy update process to elevate teaching and match departments’ teaching aspirations. Stipends are funded by UO’s Howard Hughes Medical Institute Grant to support the evaluation of inclusive and effective teaching.

Leads would:

  • Work with their heads to schedule three departmental conversations on teaching in the next two academic years
  • Attend training 1: Facilitating a Departmental Conversation on Teaching
  • Facilitate their department’s meeting/conversation
  • Attend training 2: Updating Your Career and TTF Review and Promotion Policies
  • Provide draft Career and TTF Review and Promotion policies for departmental discussion
  • Make revisions as necessary to prepare teaching-related policies for departmental approval

If you are a unit head or designee interested in naming a Departmental Teaching Policy Lead, please email tep@uoregon.edu by the end of the day January 26 (extended deadline) with a very brief (under 200 words, please) note explaining show such a position would function in your unit policy revision process and identifying a candidate for this position.

If you are a faculty member who would like to self nominate for this position, please discuss this opportunity with your unit head an copy them on your note of interest.

We can support up to 20 colleagues in this role.
