AI Teaching Triangles: Apply by Feb 4th!

AI Teaching Triangles provide a collaborative learning and work structure for faculty grappling with the impacts of genAI on what they teach and how they guide and assess student learning. The program is open to faculty who teach Core Education courses. It is not about requiring AI integration, but resourcing small groups of faculty in supporting each other through assignment revision. While the AI focus is new, the Teaching Triangle structure has been used at UO in the past; participants have enjoyed the program's loose, self-directed structure and the opportunity to develop and strengthen relationships with colleagues.

The Winter-Spring 2026 Teaching Triangles program is a shared initiative of the Teaching Engagement Program (TEP) and UO Libraries.

What an AI Teaching Triangle is:

A Teaching Triangle is a collaborative trio of faculty who work together over the Winter and Spring 2026 terms to:

  • Revise key course assignments to better support learning in an AI-rich environment
  • Meet to share strategies and provide peer feedback
  • Explore resources and approaches that align with their teaching goals

Interested faculty can find their own triangle partners or apply on their own and be matched with others.

All AI stances are welcome, whether you prohibit AI use, encourage integration, or are still figuring out your approach.

Program activities and support:

Required activities include (Time commitment: 8-10 hours):

  • Revision of one significant assignment using evidence-based design strategies. You'll assess your assignment's vulnerability to AI misuse, apply 2-4 design moves (like strengthening authenticity, requiring process evidence, or clarifying expectations), and workshop your revision.
  • Attending an in-person kickoff meeting on February 18th from 10:00 - 11:30 am (if you are interested in applying but have a scheduling conflict that cannot be moved, feel free to contact us at tep@uoregon.edu).
  • Meeting with your triangle partners 2-3 times before the end of spring term and providing thoughtful feedback on partners' revisions.
  • Choosing one additional action from a list of options (for example, consulting with the Libraries or TEP, reading an article, exploring a tool, registering for an upcoming AI event)

While not required, we also hope participants will attend a celebration/wrap-up event we’ll host at the beginning of next Fall term.

Support will include:

  • $500+OPE stipend upon completion
  • Peer collaboration and feedback from two fellow faculty
  • Curated resources from the Libraries and TEP
  • Optional consultation with TEP and UO Libraries

Timeline:

  • Feb 4: Deadline for interest survey for Core Ed instructors
  • Feb 18 (10:00 - 11:30 am): Kickoff meeting (Knight Library, Browsing Room)
  • Feb 18 - June 12: Triangle work period (2-3 meetings at your convenience)
  • June 12: Submit final materials and reflection survey
  • Fall 2026: Celebration event to share your work

Eligibility and how to apply:

Faculty teaching at least one Core Ed course this academic year are eligible. We hope to have a diverse disciplinary range of participants from across schools and colleges. Due to limited capacity, we will review interest forms and confirm participation as spots are available. This program may be a good fit for you if you:

  • Want to make your assignments more resilient or intentional with respect to AI
  • Want peer support navigating AI-related teaching and assessment challenges
  • Have questions about academic integrity, assessment design, or student learning
  • Want to learn from colleagues with different perspectives

If you are interested, we invite you to:

  1. Decide whether you want to find your own triangle or apply and be matched.
    • Do you already have two colleagues you want to work with? Great—indicate that in the survey.
    • Need help finding partners? We'll match you with faculty teaching similar courses or sharing similar concerns.
  2. Complete the AI Teaching Triangles Interest Form by February 4, 5:00 pm. Please note that each applicant should complete the survey, even if they have partners in mind.
