Neurodivergent Instructors Striving for Neuro-inclusive Classes

  • 6 December 2022
  • Virtual Event
  • Event Host: TEP, Campus partners
  • Event Type: Workshop

This discussion- focused affinity-group workshop hopes to create space for neurodivergent* instructors (faculty and GEs) to come together to discuss ways to create neuro-inclusive classroom environments that also work for them. The discussion will be over Zoom in large group and small group (or solo reflection time—individuals can choose throughout) and will be structured to honor a range of communication styles and needs. Discussions will be facilitated by neurodivergent individuals with differing experiences in higher education as instructors (and as students and staff).

The purpose of this discussion-based session is to:

  • Offer space for neurodivergent instructors to be their authentic selves.
  • Provide a space for neurodivergent instructors to speak with colleagues about
    • experiences of and goals for teaching in ways that might intersect with their identity
    • challenges and solutions or supports instructors have found useful (sharing will be grounded in the questions participants generate and most want to discuss)
  • Identify what institution could do differently to be more neuro-inclusive for instructors

Please do register on MyTrack (it supports our planning), but if you don't have time to register, you can also just join us via Zoom!

*There are many conversations around which identities fall under this umbrella term; for our collective purposes, if you identify with it (and/or with other identities that fall under that neurodivergent umbrella, like autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, etc.) join us.
